Biography
Hello & welcome to Land, City, Sky Photography.
My name is James and I have been an avid photographer since I was a child. It all started when I was around 7 years old and discovered my Dad’s Minolta ‘Range Finder’, which I still faithfully use to this day. Every family holiday I would commandeer the camera and appoint myself as ‘Chief Photographer’, inevitably most of the images were not of a high standard and lacked a sophisticated eye, but hey, I was only 7 years old after all.
As years progressed, if I came across a that particular camera and it had film in it, I would burn that roll with much excitement and wonder. When the film came back from processing, I would surprise my father with random photos of the cat and dog! While at High School I immersed myself into a Photography class and experimented with Pinhole cameras and the standard school issue SLR.
Time did it’s thing, and I rarely took many photos until mobiles had high quality cameras built in, this rekindled my love of photography, but it remained a hobby and I was mostly just taking casual images as we all do.
In 2016 I bought my first serious digital camera and have since been on an amazing journey into a world of capturing light and form. It’s been a steep learning curve, one that I have cherished. But it wasn’t until 2024 that I actually felt my work was worthy of another’s eyes. With amazing support and encouragement from family, strangers and acquaintances, I decided to embark on a business that gives people the opportunity to enjoy my images in their own homes.
I sincerely gain great pleasure in sharing my unique view of the world around us with others. So from the humble beginnings of a 7 year old that pinched his Dad’s camera into the fully-fledged Landscape Photographer, I am pleased to bring the same feelings of emotion to you as I feel when capturing these images……
